CT scan (computed tomography)
Computer Tomography (CT SCAN) : Is the machine uses X-rays to make detailed pictures of parts of your body and the structures inside your body.
A CT scan makes use of computer processed combinations of many X-ray measurements taken from different Angles to produced cross sectional image of specific areas of scanned object, allowing the user to see inside the object without cutting.
MEDICAL USE OF CT SCAN.
1: HEAD.
CT scanning of the head is typically used to detect infractions, tumors, calcification, hemorrhage and bone trauma.CT scan of the is used in CT guided stereotactical surgery for treatment.
2:LUNGS.
CT scan can be used for detecting both acute and chronic changes in the lung parenchyma, that is the internal of the lungs. It is particular relevant here because normal two dimensional X-ray do not show defects.
PULMONARY ANGIOGRAM.
CT pulmonary angiogram is the medical diagnostic test used to diagnose pulmonary embolism. It employs computer tomography and iodine based agent to obtain an image of pulmonary arteries.
CARDIAC.
CT is an accurate technique for diagnosis of abnormal diseases. Its uses included diagnosis and staging of cancer.
EXTREMITIES.
CT is often used to image complex fractures , especially one around joints because of its ability to reconstruct the area of interest in multiple planes.
ADVANTAGES OF CT SCAN.
CT completely eliminates the superimposing of the image of structure outside the area of interest because of the inherent hight contrast resolution of CT, difference between tissue that differ in physical.
